Anne Hathaway was born in Brooklyn, New York. She has an older brother, Michael, who was gay, and a younger brother, Thomas. She is a classical actress who prefers to work on the stage, despite her work on screen. Anne first screen role was in the short television series 'Get Real'. But she gained widespread recognition in 2001 in the 'Princess Diaries'. People magazine named her one of its breakthrough stars of 2001. In 2005 Hathaway began appearing in more dramatic roles and starred in R-rated film 'Havoc' and 'Brokeback Mountain', in both films she was featured in several nude and sexual scenes. Her next film was comedy 'The Devil Wears Prada' and it was box office gold. In 2008 she starred in 'Rachel Getting Married' and was nominated for Best Actress Academy Award for her role.
