Maria Sharapova was born on April 19, 1987 in Nyagan. It's a town in the Siberian region of Russia. When she was 4 Yevgeny Kafelnikov presented her a racket. Soon tennis became a passion for her. At 7 her father brought her to U.S. and she attended the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida without knowing a word of English. During those years she was separated from her mother who couldn't get the proper visa. Maria's official tennis career began in 2001. After two years she was ranked 186th on the WTA charts. Next year she was 32nd. In 2004 at the age of 17 Sharapova won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and became the third-youngest women's champion in history of Wimbledon. Later Maria won 2 more Grand Slam US Open in 2006 and Australian Open in 2008. Sharapova also known for her court grunts, the loudest was measured at 101.2 decibels (it's louder than a motorcycle) at Wimbledon in 2005. The combination of her tennis success and physical beauty have enabled her to appear in many men's magazines and their hot lists.
