Mary Carey was born Mary Ellen Cook in Cleveland, Ohio. Her mother was schizophrenic and father had cerebral palsy so she was taken care of by her grandparents who later adopted her. At the age of seven, Mary moved to Florida where she began to study ballet. At 19, she became a student of theater at Florida Atlantic University and continued dancing for their dance team. When her grandmother became ill, Mary Carey decided to work as an exotic dancer to gain money. She realized that she would gain more money by being a feature dancer, which would mean becoming a porn star. Mary Carey was successful and has appeared in over 80 films. She also is famous for her publicity stunt when she ran for governor during the California recall election in 2003. She came in 10th amongst 135 candidates and says she plans on running for president.
